Kazoku is an interview book about my dad and his journey moving from Japan to Hilo, HI. I chose to interview my dad because he is my inspiration and always motivates me to be the best I can be. This book talks about a “home within a home;” how my dad came to Hawaii and made it his new home but still keeps a sense of Japanese culture within our household because of my mom. In Japanese culture, manners are very important when we speak and present ourselves to others. This book also explores the unique lifestyle that sets Japanese culture apart from Western cultures.
The book is bound with a Japanese stitch binding technique, matching the aesthetics of the tatami flooring on the front and back cover with the weaving technique.
